Princeton Geniza Project description: Marriage document. An ornamented ketubah from Rashid, 1785 CE. The text is complete, but the left margin with the decorations is torn. The groom is מסעוד סוגייר (Masʿūd Sughayr). The bride's first name is not preserved with the rest of her nomenclature: [....] bt. Shemuʾel "Di Mordekhay Di Ancona." It is unclear whether "Di Mordekhay" should be read as a part of a long surname or as a father-son patronymic (b. Mordekhay). The latter scenario seems more likely, however, given the inclusion of Di Ancona/D'Ancona before נ׳׳ע. If the groom was from or resided in Ancona (תושב אנקונה/מעיר אנקונה) this designation would conventionally appear after the honorific blessing. Therefore, Di Ancona/D'Ancona should be read as the bride's patrilineal surname. The marriage gift is 3000 Mayidis. Signed by the groom and Moshe Pesah משה פסח.
