מכתב מעמרם בן יצחק באלכסנדריה אל חלפון בן נתנאל בפוסטאט. תאריכו: כ"ד באלול [א'תנ"א] לשטרות = 8 בספטמבר 1140. הכותב מביע את דאגתו לאחר שלא קיבל ידיעות מחלפון תקופה ממושכת. הוא מתאר את צערו על מות עלי הדיין (אחיו של חלפון) ואת יגונו בשל מחלתה הקשה של אשתו. זהו הראשון מבין שלושה מכתבים ששרדו ובהם עמרם מספק תיאור מפורט של מחלות אשתו. במכתב זה נכתב: "ואמא חאלי וע'לתי, וע'לה הד'ה אלמסכינה אלתי תמות בין ידי פי כל יום אלף מרה. קד חדת' להא, מע אעלאלהא אלתי לא תנחצר, עלה פי אד'נהא מן עשרין יומא, אלי אן נסינא ג'מיע אלעלל אלמתקדמה..." — דהיינו, מצבו ומחלתו, ומחלת אותה מסכנה הגוססת לפניו אלף פעמים ביום, שלקתה — נוסף על מחלותיה שאין להן ספור — גם במחלה באוזן זה עשרים יום, עד שנשכחו כל המחלות הקודמות. עמרם מתלונן גם על מצבו שלו, על היותו "נפוח" (מנתפח') ועל דלקת העיניים שלקה בה: "איני רואה היכן אני מניח את הקולמוס". בנוסף מודיע עמרם לחלפון כי יהודה הלוי נמצא על האונייה שזה עתה הגיעה לאלכסנדריה.

Princeton Geniza Project description: IB IV, 68 (ח74). Letter from ʿAmram b. Yiṣḥaq, in Alexandria, to Ḥalfon b. Netanel, in Fustat. Dating: 24 Elul [1451] Seleucid = 8 September 1140 CE. The writer expresses his worries after he did not hear from Ḥalfon for a long time. He describes his sorrow on account of the death of ʿEli the judge (Ḥalfon's brother), and on account of his wife's severe illness. This is the first of three surviving letters in which ʿAmram provides a detailed description of this illnesses of his wife. In this letter: "As for my state and my illness, and the illness of that wretched woman who dies before my eyes a thousand times a day. She has developed, in addition to her infinite illnesses, an illness in her ear for 20 days now, to the point that we have forgotten all the illnesses that came before..." ʿAmram also complains about his own "swollen" (muntafikh) state and his ophthalmia: "I cannot see where I place my pen."
