מכתב ממַצְ'מוּן בן חסן, באדן, אל אברהם בן יִיגוּ. תיארוך משוער: בסביבות 1135 לסה"נ. קיימים שרידים של ארבעה או חמישה העתקים שונים של מכתב זה. שני הקטעים שלפנינו מסומנים כהעתק 4, אם כי ייתכן שמדובר בשני העתקים נפרדים. באחד הקטעים, הטקסט שברקטו אינו מוכר ממקום אחר, ואילו הוורסו מקביל לחלק מהעתק אחר של המכתב (שורות 32–43). בקטע השני, הטקסט שברקטו חופף בחלקו להעתק נוסף, ואילו הוורסו אינו מתועד במקבילות אחרות. המכתב מתאר עסקאות מסחריות ומה שהמחבר מכנה טובות או "מתנות" לסוחר עמית. הסחורות העיקריות הנזכרות הן נחושת ופלפל; כמו כן מדווח על מסי מכס, דמי הובלה ימית, שכר סבלים ועלויות שמירה. השולח מזכיר מס ששולם באל-פֻרְצַ'ה (בית המכס בעיר הנמל אדן) ואת השמות עלי אל-נילי ("סוחר האינדיגו") ואבו ע'אלב אל-רֻבּאן ("רב-החובל"), המצביעים על מקור המכתב בעיר הנמל אדן במהלך המאה ה-12. המכתב נמשך בצידו השני. על האנשים הנזכרים בשמותיהם ראו גויטיין ופרידמן, סוחרי הודו בימי הביניים; ועל אל-פֻרְצַ'ה ראו אצל גויטיין ופרידמן ואצל מרגריטי, אדן והמסחר באוקיינוס ההודי. ההעתקים השונים של המכתב הם: העתק 1 (המקור בכתב ידו של מצ'מון), שבוורסו שלו מופיעים חשבונות בכתב ידו של אבן יִיגוּ; העתק 2 (העתקה ראשונה של הסופר); העתק 3 (העתקה שנייה של הסופר); והעתקים 4 ו-5, שאליהם משתייך הקטע הנוכחי. העתקים 1–3 זוהו ופורסמו על ידי גויטיין ופרידמן (2008) בספרם "סוחרי הודו", ואילו העתקים 4–5, וכן צירוף ישיר נוסף להעתק 3, התגלו בשנת 2023.

Princeton Geniza Project description: IB II, 21a + 21b. Letter from Maḍmūn b. Ḥasan, in Aden, to Avraham Ibn Yiju. Dating: ca. 1135 CE. Fragments of four or five different copies of this letter exist. II,21a and II,21b are labeled as Copy 4, although they may be two different copies. On II, 21a, the recto text is not paralleled elsewhere, but the verso corresponds to II, 23 (T-S 20.137), ll. 32-43 (PGPID 5448). On II, 21b, the recto text overlaps somewhat with II, 21 (T-S NS J241), but verso is not paralleled elsewhere. The letter describes commercial transactions and what the author describes as favors or 'gifts' to a fellow trader. The main commodities mentioned are copper and pepper; customs dues, freight charges, porters' fees, and safekeeping are also reported. The sender mentions a tax paid at al-Furda (the customshouse at the port city of Aden) and the names of Ali al-Nili ('the indigo trader') and Abu Ghalib al-Rubban ('the captain'), suggesting the letter's origin in the port city of Aden sometime in the 12th century. The letter continues on the verso.
