פתיחה של חיבור ספרותי ה"מתרגם" או "מבאר" עניינים בתורה ובנביאים, ובכלל זה תרגום אונקלוס. מדובר בקריאת רשות מורחבת — רשות מאת האל ומאת כלל החכמים, ובראשם הנגיד דוד מימוני (ככל הנראה דוד הראשון ב"ר אברהם ב"ר משה) — מקבילה ספרותית מסקרנת לסוג השכיח יותר של "רשות" הנפוץ במסמכים משפטיים. הנגיד דוד היה ככל הנראה חולה באותה עת, שכן יש כאן ברכה לרפואתו ולהחלמתו. בתיאור קודם נכתב על המסמך: "רשות מאת הנגיד דוד מימוני לקריאת טקסטים קדושים בבית הכנסת".
Princeton Geniza Project description: The opening of a literary work 'translating' or 'expounding' matters of Torah and the Prophets including Targum Onqelos. It is an extended invocation of the 'reshut' (authority) of God and of all the sages, at their head the Nagid David Maimonides (likely David I b. Avraham b. Moshe), an intriguing literary parallel for the more common sort of 'reshut' in legal documents. The Nagid David was apparently sick at this time, since there is a blessing for his recovery. Previously described on PGP as "permission from David Maimonides Nagid for recitation of holy texts in the synagogue SH [6-9-87]."
