מכתב מאת חבר ישיבת ירושלים, שזוהה על ידי פרנקל כנראה עם יעקב בן יוסף ראש קהילת חלב, ככל הנראה מחלב, אל גאון, ככל הנראה שלמה בן יהודה, בירושלים. התיארוך: בערך 1035 לפי גיל, או סוף שנות העשרים של המאה ה־11 לפי פרנקל. השולח מתלונן על בני קהילתו אשר זוממים נגדו והוציאו עליו דיבת שווא פעמיים — פעם אחת בפני הגאון הנוכחי ופעם נוספת בפני קודמו. חפותו של השולח כבר הוכחה בעבר, ועתידה להיות מוכחת שוב, בעזרתו של צדוק בן לוי, שמכתבו הקודם אבד. מוזכרים גם תמים [בן?] אברהם ויפת אבן אלשַיזרי. הכותב מצוי גם ביחסים טובים עם המושל המקומי. הכותב יוצא לדרכו לכלנה (Calneh) במטרה לנסות ליישב סכסוך שפרץ בתוך הקהילה היהודית שם; אדם בשם אבן אללאד'קי (אולי הוא יהושע אללאד'קי או בנו עלי) מבקש לרשת את מקומו של הדיין שנפטר לאחרונה. במחקר הגניזה רווחת ההסכמה הכללית (מאן, גיל ופרנקל) שכלנה היא אלרקה, אך אחרים הציעו שכלנה היא הכפר הסמוך לחלב הידוע כיום בשם כֻּלַּן־קוי. מאחר שמכתבו האחרון של הנמען אבד, מבקש הכותב שהנמען ישלח אליו מכתב תמיכה שיחזק את סמכותו בתוך הקהילה בחלב; עם רמיזות לאיוב ל,כו ולאיוב י,כב ולמשלי כז,יט.

Princeton Geniza Project description: Letter from a ḥaver of the Jerusalem yeshiva, identified by Frenkel as probably Yaʿaqov b. Yosef the leader of the community of Aleppo, probably in Aleppo, to a gaʾon, probably Shelomo b. Yehuda, in Jerusalem. Dating: ca. 1035 (Gil) or late 1020s (Frenkel). The sender complains about the members of his congregation who plot against him and have twice slandered him, once to the present gaʾon, once to his predecessor. The sender's innocence has been proven before, and will be proven again, with the help of Ṣadoq b. Levi, whose previous letter was lost. Also mentions Tamīm [b.?] Avraham and Yefet Ibn al-Shayzarī. The writer is also on good terms with the local governor. The writer is leaving for Kalne (Calneh) to attempt to resolve a dispute within the Jewish community there; a man named Ibn al-Lādhiqī (potentially identical with Yehoshuaʿ al-Lādhiqī or his son ʿAlī, cf. T-S 24.59 (PGPID 1808)) is seeking to succeed their recently deceased judge. The general consensus in Geniza scholarship (Mann, Gil, and Frenkel) is that Kalne is al-Raqqa. Others have proposed that Kalne is the village near Aleppo now known as Kullan-Köy. As the recipient’s last letter was lost, the writer requests that the recipient send a letter of support to strengthen the writer’s authority within the community in Aleppo; with allusions to Job 30:26, 10:22 and Proverbs 27:19.
