תיאור

מכתב, ככל הנראה מאבו זכרי הכהן בפוסטאט אל נמען בלתי מזוהה, ככל הנראה באלכסנדריה. בערבית-יהודית. המכתב מכיל ידיעות מעדן. בין הסחורות הנזכרות: פנינים (לולו), שנהב (עאג'), מושק, ניב פיל (?נאב), וכן סידור — או ליתר דיוק היעדרו של סידור; אבו זכרי הכהן אף בדק את שטר המטען (תד'כרה) ומצא שהסידור כלל לא נשלח. בעניין בן יג'ו כותב המחבר: "אשר לדבריך על בן יג'ו, אין טעם לדחות את המכתב, כי זהו מצב קורע לב, ולא יצא לך מזה דבר: כל פרוטה שהייתה שייכת לו טבעה עם ספינתו של מצ'מון, שכן הספינה נטרפה בכניסתה (להודו) ולא נותר ניצול. כך גם שלוש ספינות אחרות שהיו בדרכן לבהרוץ' נטרפו בכניסתן, ואיש לא שרד." בהמשך מוזכרים מחרוז; דיין; פתווא בעניין בית; ובצד ה־verso הוראות מפורטות לגבי בגדים שיש להכין. Princeton Geniza Project description: IB V, 6. Letter apparently from Abū Zikrī Kohen, in Fusṭāṭ, to an unidentified addressee, apparently in Alexandria. In Judaeo-Arabic. Containing news about Aden. Commodities include: pearl (luʾlūʾ), ivory (ʿāj), musk, tusk (? nāb), and a siddur—or rather the lack of a siddur; Abū Zikrī Kohen even checked the bill of lading (tadhkira) and found that it was never shipped. "As for what you said about Ben Yiju, there is no need to postpone the letter, because it is a heartrending situation, and it won't do you any good: every penny that belonged to him drowned with the ship of Maḍmūn, for the ship foundered when it was entering (India) and nobody survived. Likewise, three other ships for Bharuch foundered when they were entering, and not a soul survived."
