מכתב ששלח מוסא בן אבי אל-חיי מאלכסנדריה אל יוסף בן מוסא אל-תאהרתי בפוסטאט, סביב שנת 1065. המכתב כולל ידיעות מסיציליה שהועברו מפלרמו ומצפון אפריקה, ובהן הבשורה שהנורמנים כבשו את רובו של האי. רק שלוש ערים נותרו בידיים מוסלמיות: פלרמו, מאזרה דל ואלו וקסטרוג'ובאני (אנה של ימינו). תיארוך המכתב הוא בערך בין 1063 ל-1071: הנורמנים הגיעו לראשונה לסיציליה בשנת 1061, אך הקרב הגדול הראשון היה קרב צ'רמי בשנת 1063, ואילו פלרמו ומאזרה נכנעו בתחילת 1072. ככל הנראה ניסו יהודי סיציליה לברוח לצפון אפריקה בעקבות אי-השקט ששרר באי.
Princeton Geniza Project description: Letter of Mūsā b. Abī l-Ḥayy, Alexandria, to Yosef b. Mūsā al-Tāhartī, in Fusṭāṭ (c. 1065 CE). Includes reports from Sicily transmitted from Palermo and North Africa, including the news that the Normans had conquered most of Sicily. Only Palermo, Mazara del Vallo and Castrogiovanni (modern-day Enna) remained in Muslim hands. Dating is roughly 1063–71, as the Normans were first in Sicily in 1061 (but the first major battle was the Battle of Cerami in 1063) and Palermo and Mazara surrendered in early 1072. Sicilian Jews were apparently attempting to escape to North Africa due to the unrest.
