מכתב מאבו אלעלאא בן עיאש אל "אחיו" בפוסטאט. בכתב ערבי. השולח מציין שהוא מובטל מעבודה (קאעד בטאל) וייתכן שבכוונתו להינשא (דכ׳ול ערוס). הוא מבקש מהנמען לשלוח עמו את מחציתו של דבר־מה, ככל הנראה כסף, באמצעות בני משפחת חותנו, שכן הוא זקוק לו. בצד השני (verso) מופיעה רשימה בערבית־יהודית הכוללת שמות ומספרים (ראו רשומה נפרדת).
Princeton Geniza Project description: Recto with address on verso (original use): Letter from Abū l-ʿAlāʾ b. ʿAyyāsh to his 'brother' (ʿArūs b. Yosef?) in Fustat. In Arabic script. The sender mentions that he is unemployed (qāʿid baṭṭāl) and may intend to marry (dukhūl ʿarūs). (The word ʿarūs seems to actually mean bride here, and it seems coincidental that the letter ended up in the hands of ʿArūs b. Yosef.) He asks that the addressee send half of something, probably money, with his in-laws as he is in need of it. On verso there is a list in Judaeo-Arabic containing names and numbers (see separate record).
