מכתב מהלאל בן אברהם, ככל הנראה מאלכסנדריה, אל אחיו אבו נצר בן אברהם, ככל הנראה בפוסטאט. השולח מודאג מאבו אלכרם, שכל מבוקשו הוא "לתבוע את מאת הדינרים" (או אולי, בקריאה פחות סבירה, "לתבוע מן המת דינר"). הלאל מתאר כי בקושי נותר בו כוח להמשיך ולפתוח את חנותו מדי יום. הוא מוסר ידיעות על אנשים שונים, ואחר כך כותב על עניין לא מפורש שביקש מאחיו לטפל בו: "לעניין שביקשתי ממך, עליך להיות חפץ בעמל, מוכן לשאת על גבך משאות כבדים ולהוכיח כי ראוי אתה לשמך הטוב; אל תדמה בנפשך כי מה שאינו מושג אלא בעבודת פרך יבוא לידך בעזרת האל בעודך נוטל הדברים בנקל" (תרגום על פי גויטיין). חלק מן המידע מבוסס על דיוניו של גויטיין במסגרת חיבורו על החברה הים-תיכונית.
Princeton Geniza Project description: Letter from Hilāl b. Avraham, in Alexandria(?), to his brother Abū Naṣr b. Avraham, in Fustat(?). The sender is worried about Abū l-Karam whose only desire is to 'sue for the 100 dinars' (or conceivably 'sue the dead man for a dinar,' but this seems less likely). Hilāl hardly finds the energy to keep on opening his shop any more. He passes on news of various people and then writes about an unspecified matter, "For the matter requested from you by me you must be desirous of toil, prepared to take heavy loads upon your back and prove that you are worthy of your renown; do not fancy that what can be obtained only by drudgery may be gotten with God's help while taking things easy" (trans.
