Princeton Geniza Project description: Legal record (#126) in a court register/pinqas from a Karaite beit din in Cairo (on f. 41r of Yevr.-Arab. I 328). Dated: 14 Av 5329 AM (1569 CE), the same day as the preceding entry on f. 41r. The scribal hand of this entry is that of Avraham b. Yeshaʿyyahu Tūrīzī, who likely penned most of the court register, but the preceding record was penned by a different scribe. Conditional betrothal dissolution agreement between Reʾuven b. ʿAbd al-Bāqī al-Levi and ʿAbd al-Mejīt b. Aharon al-parnas al-Kohen, with the latter representing Reʾuven's unnamed fiancée. ʿAbd al-Mejīt is the betrothed woman's father. The conditional dissolution of the betrothal is based on Reʾuven's pending travel plans: if he leaves Cairo (or possibly Egypt) for longer than two months, then the khalāṣ document is to be delivered by his legal proxy Ibrahīm b. Yehuda ha-dayyan ha-rofe. Reʾuven's legal representative is likely the brother of the man in whose home this entry was recorded, ʿAbd al-Wāḥid al-Ḥakīm, whose full nomenclature appears in record #124 in the same court register (PGPID 42076). This page of the court register may have been detached due to damage and thus appears with the pagination folio 50 in the RNL microfilm. MCD.
