Princeton Geniza Project description: A 247-year calendar. Composed by Josiah b. Mevorakh al-ʿĀqūlī. Dating: Josiah b. Mevorakh al-ʿĀqūlī lived in the second half of the 10th century; CUDL dates this copy to the late 13th century (specifically, 1296/7 CE) based on the arrangement of calendrical values. The 247-year calendar--based on the idea that the fixed calendar repeats itself in 247-year cycles--simplified the complex arithmetic required to keep up with the fixed rabbinic calendar, with mostly accurate results.
