תיאור

מכתב בטורקית עות'מאנית הממוען אל הסולטאן, ובו אזכור של לפחות שלושה פקידים אימפריאליים והעברה של אלף קנטאר אבק שריפה ("בארות'", שורה 5) מרשיד לאלכסנדריה. נוכחותם של חילות מצב עות'מאניים בשני הנמלים מאפשרת לתארך את המסמך לתקופה שלאחר 1517 לסה"נ. בשורות הפתיחה, מתחת לביטוי "סולטאני / סולטאן שלי" (Sulṭānım), מופיעה התייחסות לצו או להוראת הסולטאן ("בויורולדו" – buyuruldu, שורה 4 מימין) בהקשר של מינויו של דיוואן כאתבי מחמד אפנדי. מוניטינו של הממונה מאושר במכתב כ"איש טוב / iyi bir adām" (שורה 4 מימין). בפינה השמאלית התחתונה חתום שולח המכתב, ואף שחלק ניכר מחתימתו אינו ברור, ניתן לזהות כי נשא את התואר "אגא" (اغا). שאר הפקידים האימפריאליים הנזכרים במכתב מופיעים בשוליים: בשוליים הימניים אזכור של אבראהים צ'לבי (שורה 5 מימין), ובשוליים העליונים אזכור של דפתרדאר ח'אלהזאדה כנאן אפנדי (שורות 1–2 מימין). המידע נמסר באדיבותה של ד"ר אזגן פלק.

Princeton Geniza Project description: Letter in Ottoman Turkish to the sultan that references at least three imperial officials and the transfer of a thousand qantars of gunpowder "bārūt" (l. 5) from Rashid to Alexandria. Given the presence of Ottoman garrisons in each port, this detail helps date the document as post-1517 CE. In the opening lines beneath the phrase "Sulṭānım / my Sultan" there is reference to the Sultan's order/decree "buyuruldu" (l. 4r) in connection with the appointment of the Dīvān Kâtibī Meḥmed Efendi. The appointee's reputation is confirmed as that of "a good man / iyi bir adām" (l. 4r). In the lower left corner, the letter sender has signed and while much of his signature remains unclear, he held the title "اغا". The other imperial officials who are mentioned appear in the right margin: Ibrahīm Çelebi (l. 5r) and in the upper margin: Defterdâr Ḥālazâde Kenān Efendi (l. 1-2r).
