תיאור

העתק ו/או טיוטה של מכתב בטורקית עות'מאנית, הממוען ל"לורד קואן ג'נרל" (قوان/Cowan). בשורה השנייה מוזכרות שלוש מעצמות כיֵשׁויות מדיניות: האימפריה העות'מאנית (דَولת-י עَלִיֶּה), "אנגליה" ו"צרפת". על סמך הפלאוגרפיה, ההקשר הבינלאומי ותארי הכבוד, ייתכן שלפנינו העתק של מכתב שנשלח אל וולטר קואן (נולד 1871, נפטר 1956), שפיקד על הכוחות הימיים הבריטיים בנילוס בסוף שנות ה-90 של המאה ה-19. (זיהוי על פי מידע שמסרה באדיבותה אוזגן פלק.) תעתיק לאותיות לטיניות (במהדורת אוזגן פלק): "Lord Kowan Ceneral'e (General) gidecek mektubun suretidur Devlet-i aliyyenün müttefiki olan İngiltere devleti tarafından Franca'da [...] masaliha-i amme[nin] tasdiknamelerin mübadelesi ..… tarihinden itiba[ren] ….. [kuvvetleri?] tarafından tahliye olunacağı şart ve karar virildiğinden …." כלומר: "העתק המכתב שיישלח ללורד קואן ג'נרל. מכיוון שמטעם ממלכת אנגליה, בעלת בריתה של המדינה הנשגבה [העות'מאנית], בצרפת [...] חילופי כתבי האשרור של ענייני הכלל [...] החל מתאריך [...] נקבע ונחתם שהפינוי ייעשה על ידי [הכוחות?] של [...]."

Princeton Geniza Project description: Copy and/or draft of a letter in Ottoman Turkish, addressed to "Lord Cowan General" (قوان/Cowan). The Ottoman Empire (Devlet-i ʿAliye), "England," and "France" are all mentioned as state entities in the second line. Based on the paleography, international context, and honorifics, this fragment is possibly a copy of a letter that was sent to Walter Cowan (b. 1871–d. 1956 CE) who commanded British naval forces on the Nile in the late 1890s. [kuvvetleri?] tarafından tahliye olunacağı şart ve karar virildiğinden …."
