מכתב המלצה שנשלח מרמלה, ככל הנראה אל פוסטאט, כתוב בעברית. המכתב נכתב לטובת משה בן שמואל. אביו שמואל נפטר בחורף שעבר, בעת שפרצה ברמלה מגפה גדולה (דֶּבֶר) שגבתה את חייהם של רבים "מאחינו היהודים". שמואל הותיר אחריו אלמנה, את בנו משה, ובת בת שבע. אלמנתו של שמואל אינה אמו של משה. במכתב מוזכר גם אדם בשם מֻחְסִן (בשורה 10), והוא נזכר שוב בשורה 16, שם נראה כי ניתן לזהות את ראשית המילה הפקיד, כלומר הנציג (וכיל).
Princeton Geniza Project description: Letter of recommendation sent from Ramla, presumably to Fustat. In Hebrew. On behalf of Moshe b. Shemuel. His father Shemuel died this winter, as there was a great epidemic (dever) in Ramla this winter, in which many died 'of our Jewish brethren.' Shemuel left a widow, his son Moshe, and a 7-year-old daughter. Shemuel's widow is not Moshe's mother. Also a certain Muḥsin is mentioned (line 10) and again in line 16 in which possibly the begining of the word ha-paqid, the representative (wakīl) can be seen.
