מכתב, שככל הנראה נכתב בידי אלעזר הכהן בן שלמה ראש, מצאצאי הגאונים, אשר עבד אצל הנמען (או היה קשור אליו בדרך אחרת). המכתב נשלח כדי להביע תנחומים על מות "הגבירה" (אלגבירה) ולבקש סיוע. המכתב נפתח בציטוטים מהמקרא, ובהם משלי ג, ב וישעיהו מ"ג, ב. ייתכן שנשלח אל "המנהיג" אבו אלמפצ'ל. בין האנשים הנזכרים בו: גרשום הכהן, אלחבר אבן שמעיה, יוסף, שלמה, אבן אלדבאע' (בנו של הבורסקאי) ואבן אלקטאיף. המכתב מזכיר את פטירתו של מנהיג (ריס) ואת מות הגבירה הנכבדה, וכולל ברכה על הולדת ילד חדש, ככל הנראה לאחר מות בן קודם. כמה מן הביטויים המופיעים במכתב זה מצויים גם במכתב נוסף של אלעזר בן שלמה הכהן.
Princeton Geniza Project description: Letter, probably written by Elazar ha-Kohen b. Shelomo, who worked for(?) the addressee, sending condolences for the death of the dowager and asking for assistance. (Information from Goitein's index cards) Letter introduced by biblical citations such as Proverbs 3:2 and Isaiah 43:2, from Elʿazar ha-Kohen b. Shelomo ha-Rosh, descendent of geʾonim. Possibly sent to ‘the leader’ Abū l-Mufaḍḍal. Mentions people including Gershom ha-Kohen, al-Ḥaver Ibn Shemaʿya, Yosef, Shelomo, Ibn al-Dabbāgh (son of the tanner) and Ibn al-Qaṭāʾif, and the death of a leader (Rayyis) and a honourable lady (אלגבירה). Contains a blessing for a new child, probably after the death of a son. (Information from CUDL.)
