העתק מעניין של מכתב בערבית-יהודית בענייני ישיבה. למרבה הצער, קפל לאורך הדף מסתיר מילה או שתיים מכל שורה, וניתן ככל הנראה לפתוח אותו. הכותב מציין כי קרא את מכתבו של הנמען בעניין בנו של שמואל גאון ז"ל, שעשוי להיות כבן עשרים ומשהו (שורה 7). נראה שהכותב מתאר את חינוכו וגידולו של אותו בן, אולי במטרה להראות שאינם הולמים כדי שייטול על עצמו משרה רשמית. אם לימודיו כה דלים, ניתן רק לדמיין את יכולתו לחבר שירה ולהציג חזות והופעה מכובדות. הוא מעתיק ספרים מבלי להבין דבר מתוכנם. הכותב אובד עצות כיצד לשפר את מצבו, והוא מביע משאלה שהנמען יוכל לקחת אותו תחת חסותו, אך לשם כך יידרשו זקני הישיבה להסכים. בנקודה זו מסתיים הדף.
Princeton Geniza Project description: Interesting copy of a Judaeo-Arabic letter regarding affairs of a Yeshivah. There is unfortunately a crease covering a word or two from each line, and this could probably be unfolded. The writer read the addressee's letter about the matter of the son of Shemuel Gaon (ZL), who may be 20-something years old (line 7). The writer seems to describe his education and upbringing, perhaps trying to show that they are inadequate for this son to assume an official position. If his learning is so meager, just imagine his ability to compose poetry and have a presentable face and outfit. He copies books without understanding anything of their content. The writer is at a loss for how to better him, and he wishes the addressee could take charge of him, but the elders of the Yeshivah would have to agree. Then the page ends. ASE.
