Princeton Geniza Project description: Legal document in the hand of Ḥalfon b. Menashshe (fl. 1100–1138 CE). Abū l-Ḥasan Mevasser b. Yeshuʿa he-ʿAni and Abū l-ʿAlāʾ Efrayim b. Yefet appear before the court. Abū l-ʿAlāʾ has heard that Mevasser plans to temporarily close his moneychanging shop in the perfumers' square in Fustat, next to the shop of Abū l-Ḥusayn al-Ḥalabī al-Ṣayrafī, for a period of time in order to take care of other affairs. Abū l-ʿAlāʾ asked to rent it from him, but Mevasser feared that Abū l-ʿAlāʾ would refuse to vacate the shop and return it to him upon his return. Therefore Abū l-ʿAlāʾ here declares that he will vacate the shop at the appropriate time and not exceed his lease and takes an oath to this effect. If he violates the oath, he will pay a fine of 10 dinars to the Qodesh as well as "that which will be incumbent upon me for the annulling of the oath." The rental period is 4 months, and the payment is 1.5 dinars monthly for a total of 6 dinars. Join: Hillel Gershuni.
