מכתב מצדוק, איש ציבור בולט באלכסנדריה, אל הסוחר הנכבד משה הכהן אבן ע'לייב בפוסטאט. מתוארך לחול המועד סוכות שנת ד'אלפים ת'תק"ס + קס"א = ד'תתקס"א לבריאת העולם, היינו ספטמבר/אוקטובר 1200 לספירה. במכתב מדווח הכותב על רעב נורא ועל מחסור חמור במים ובחיטה באלכסנדריה. מכאן עולה כי אלכסנדריה סבלה ממחסור חמור במזון עוד לפני הרעב הגדול שפקד את מצרים בשנים 1201/02. הכותב מזמין עשרה אִרְדַּבּים של חיטה ושולח דרישת שלום אישית לרמב"ם ולרב הצרפתי אנטולי. Princeton Geniza Project description: Letter from Ṣadoq, a prominent public figure in Alexandria, to ݂the prominent merchant Moshe ha-Kohen Ibn Ghulayb, in Fustat. Dated: ḥol ha-moʿed of Sukkot 4800 + 161 = 4961 AM = September/October 1200 CE. The letter reports of terrible hunger as well as water and wheat shortage. This indicates that Alexandria suffered from severe food shortage before the great famine that struck Egypt in 1201/02. He orders ten irdabbs of wheat and sends personal greetings to Moshe Maimonides and to the French Rabbi Anatoli.
