הסכם שותפות. מקום: קהיר. מתוארך לשנת 1667/1668 לסה"נ ("חכתה" = 5428) בין יעקב הלוי ובין יוסף פלוני ורפאל פלוני. התיארוך "חכתה" תואם את שתי הספרות האחרונות של השנה (28) שנשתמרו בשורה שלפני חתימות העדים. הקטע השרוד של המסמך מייצג את אמצעו של מה שיכול היה להיות, לכל הפחות, שלושה קטעים. מטרתו המדויקת של הסכם השותפות אינה ברורה בשל הנזק, אך כמה מן היסודות המרכזיים גלויים. (1) בשותפות היו שלושה חברים: יעקב הלוי נחמן, יוסף [שם משפחה לא ידוע], ורפאל מנשה הלוי. יוסף ויעקב היו ככל הנראה אחים (שורה 6), אלא אם כן הופיע שם רביעי בשורות הפתיחה החסרות של המסמך. לשותפים היו עסקים כספיים כלשהם עם שמואל מנשה, שכבר נפטר, וכעת הם מסדירים את החובות עם בנו חיים במקומו. כל הפרטים הללו מופיעים כרקע לפני שהמסמך מציין את מטרתו בשורה 26, אולי פירוק השותפות (אם כי קריאה זו זהירה בשל מידת הנזק). חלק זה של המסמך מזכיר גם אלמנה ויתום שאינם מצוינים בשמותיהם, אך גם תפקידם אינו ברור. רק חתימתו של הצד המסכים, רפאל מנשה הלוי, נשתמרה. מתחתיה מופיעה תוספת המזכירה את הנפטר שמואל מנשה ואת בנו חיים. גב הדף מכיל אף הוא תוספת קשורה נוספת, וכן טקסט קצר ממוחזר(?) באמצע הגבול הימני. פיזור הדיו של הטקסט הלא־מזוהה הזה מצביע על האפשרות שהנייר מורכב משני חלקים ממוחזרים שהודבקו יחד, כאשר באחד מהם טקסט שנחשף עקב הקרע.

Princeton Geniza Project description: Partnership agreement. Location: Cairo. Dated 1667/1668 CE (״חכתה״ = 5428) between Yaʿaqov ha-Levi and a certain Yosef and a certain Refa'el. This dating "חכתה" matches the surviving final two digits of the year (28) in the line just before the witness signatures. The surviving section of the document represents the middle of what could be, at least, three fragments. The exact purpose of the partnership agreement is unclear due to damage, but some of the key elements are apparent. (1) There were three members of the partnership: Yaʿaqov ha-Levi Naḥman, Yosef [surname unknown], and Rafaʾel Menashe ha-Levi. Yosef and Yaʿaqov were likely brothers (l. 6), unless a fourth name appeared in the missing opening lines of the document. The partners had some kind of financial dealings with Shemuʾel Menashe, who is now deceased and they are now settling debts with his son Ḥayyīm instead. All of these details appear as context before the document states its purpose in line 26, possibly a dissolution (but this reading is tentative due to the level of damage). This section of the document also mentions an unnamed widow and orphan, but their role is also unclear. Only the signature of the consenting party Rafaʾel Menashe ha-Levi survives. Below that there is an addendum mentioning the deceased man Shemuʾel Menashe and his son Ḥayyīm. The verso also contains another related addendum as well as brief recycled(?) text halfway down the right border. The ink distribution of this unidentified text points to the possibility that the paper consists of two recycled pieces that were pasted together, one with text that was revealed by the tear. MCD.
