איגרת פיוטית הממוענת למשורר ואיש הספר יהודה הלוי, שהיה גם רופא אמיד שהקדיש מזמנו לרווחת הציבור ולמעשי צדקה. הכותב, נוסע שמוצאו מספרד, נתון במצוקה קשה ומבקש תרומה מיהודה הלוי בעת שהיה שוהה במצרים. הערת תיקון: כתב היד מציין למעשה "אלברגושי", כלומר מבורגוס ולא מבדחוז (שנקראה באותה תקופה עדיין "בטליוס"). הכותב מתייחס לעצמו כ"אלבורגושי אלקשתילי", כלומר מקסטיליה. מאחר שהמכתב ממוען ליהודה הלוי ומזכיר את שהותו במצרים, יש לתארכו לשנים 1140–1141 לסה"נ, התקופה שבה שהה הנמען במצרים בדרכו לארץ הקודש.
Princeton Geniza Project description: Poetic epistle addressed to the poet and man of letters Yehuda ha-Levi, who was also a well-to-do physician and devoted time to public welfare and charity. The writer, a traveler from Badajoz, Spain, is in dire circumstances and requests a donation from Yehuda ha-Levi while the two were sojourning in Egypt. (S. D. Goitein, Mediterranean Society, 2:580, 5:83, 528) EMS Correction: The manuscript actually says 'אלברגושי' i.e from Burgos, not Badajoz (which back then was still Batalyus). He refers to himself as "al-Burgoshi al-Kashtīlī", from Castile. Since the letter is addressed to Yehuda ha-Levi and refers to his stay in Egypt, it should be dated to 1140-1141 CE, when the addressee was staying in Egypt on his way to the Holy Land. MY
